Common Cosmetic Concerns by Age Group

The team at the Plastic Surgery Group serves a diverse group of patients of all ages. Our goal is to help our patients feel more confident and attractive by offering quality, personalized care. While every patient has a unique cosmetic concern (i.e., a certain bothersome feature they’d like improve), our team has noticed some commonalities in cosmetic concerns within age groups.

Children & Teens

Young children typically do not have any cosmetic concerns, per se. However, some children do have oversized or protruding ears that we can repair with a procedure called otoplasty (or ear pinning). The operation is most often performed on children ages 4 to 14.

The 20s

Fortunately, twenty-somethings do not yet need to worry about visible signs of facial aging or the effects of gravity on the body. In their 20s, some women may feel self-conscious of their breast appearance. The breasts have generally stopped growing by the time a woman enters her 20s, and she may be dissatisfied with her natural breast size or shape. Breast augmentation or breast reduction are common among women in their 20s.

Another common cosmetic concern amongst twenty-somethings is the tone and texture of the skin. Flaws like acne scarring, hyperpigmentation and sun damage can be treated with non-surgical skin care procedures at our Medi Spa.

The 30s

Cosmetic concerns tend to shift once our patients hit their thirties. Many women become mothers and notice permanent physical changes (most obviously to the abdomen and breasts) after childbirth and breastfeeding. Mommy makeover is perfect for restoring a woman’s pre-baby body.

Also, the effects of aging start to hit. It’s common for the metabolism to slow down on a patient in his or her thirties, and the body may start to deposit fat differently. Liposuction can contour an area with stubborn excess fat that won’t respond to diet or exercise.

Subtle signs of aging can also start to show on the face. Fine lines and wrinkles may crop up, but can be easily treated with non-surgical facial rejuvenation options.

40s

These signs of aging intensify during a person’s forties. The lines and wrinkles start to deepen, under-eye bags may develop and the brow line may start to droop, creating a tired, angry or sad facial expression. An eyelid lift, brow lift and regular treatment with Botox and fillers are helpful to restore a more youthful and pleasant facial expression.

50s & Older

Our patients who are in their fifties and older typically complain about deep wrinkles and lines, fat displacement, loss of volume in the cheeks/lips and other noticeable signs of facial aging. One of the best treatment options is facelift; brow lift and eyelid lift are also effective and popular in this age group.
