What is VIVACE?

Vivace is a Radiofrequency (RF) Microneedling skin rejuvenation treatment that uses a combination of microneedling and radiofrequency energy to stimulate collagen and elastin production. The minimally invasive treatment can help make your skin firmer, tighter, and smoother. It addresses concerns like facial wrinkles and fine lines, acne scars, large pores, and uneven skin tone and texture. The VIVACE device is the newest generation of radiofrequency microneedling and is FDA-cleared for your safety.

We recommend a course of three to four treatments, spaced four to six weeks apart, for optimal results. This schedule aligns with the pace of your body’s cell turnover.

With numbing cream, the treatment is virtually pain-free. Plus there’s no downtime. Because the microneedling delivers its radiofrequency energy to the skin’s deeper layers, it’s safe and effective for all skin tones, with little risk of hyperpigmentation.

How does VIVACE work?

The handheld VIVACE device delivers radiofrequency energy as heat to the lower dermis layer of skin, via tiny needles. The needles and heat create precise microdamage that jump-starts your body’s cell-regeneration process. This natural healing response both remodels your skin’s structural proteins—collagen and elastin—and stimulates the production of more. Over time, your skin becomes firmer, plumper, and smoother.

At PSG, we can also enhance the patients’ results by adding PRP (platelet rich plasma).  Extracted from the patients’ bloodstream, PRP can be placed topically on their skin during the treatment. The skin can benefit from the cell regeneration properties of PRP, which complements the collagen boosting effect of Radiofrequency Microneedling.

Who’s a good candidate for VIVACE?

Vivace treatments can benefit all skin types and tones. Anyone desiring skin resurfacing with minimal to no downtime is a good candidate for a series of treatments.

  •     People with aging skin should see an improvement in wrinkles
  •     Those with dull skin will see it brighten
  •     Studies show both microneedling and radiofrequency to be effective treatments for stubborn acne scars, so Vivace is a good option for people who’ve cleared up their acne but still have scarring. (It’s best to avoid any microneedling treatments while you have active acne blemishes. Moving the needles in and out of the skin can spread bacteria around the face and lead to more breakouts.)

We can control the depth and energy level of the treatment, to customize it for your skin. We can also set red or blue LED lights to pulse throughout the treatment.

  •     In LED light therapy, red light has anti-inflammatory properties and stimulates collagen production, while blue light kills bacteria.

What happens during a Vivace treatment?

Before your appointment, we will give you a list of pre-procedure recommendations, like avoiding exfoliating agents and other astringents for at least 24 hours beforehand. If you have a history of cold sores, we may also prescribe a preventive course of antiviral medications, to reduce the chance of an outbreak.

On the day of the treatment, we will start by applying a topical anesthetic numbing cream, which takes about 30–45 minutes to become fully effective.

Once your skin is numb, we will begin the treatment by moving the Vivace hand piece device over your face. The device uses a robotic micromotor to gently push the needles into the skin. Once they’re in your skin, the insulated needles emit heat from their tips into the dermis.

The treatment will last about 45 minutes.

What can you expect after a Vivace treatment?

As part of the Vivace treatment, we will apply a soothing sheet mask immediately after, to calm the skin and minimize redness. Then, they’ll apply a balm that you leave on your skin for six hours.

You’ll want to keep your skin clear and free of any makeup or other skin-care products for at least that six-hour window, if not overnight. Remember, tiny holes were pricked in your skin, so it will be more sensitive to anything you apply.

It’s best to avoid direct sun exposure, excessive sweating, and steam for a couple of days too.

How soon will you see results?

Your skin may look smoother and brighter within hours of your treatment, but significant results rely on your body’s natural production of collagen, which takes several weeks.

Your skin tone, texture, and overall appearance will continue to improve for up to six weeks with each treatment. You’ll see the best results about six months after beginning the treatment.

How long do results last?

The results you see after a series of treatments should last about six months. We recommend follow-up treatments every four to six months, to maintain your results. To prolong the benefits, take good care of your skin and wear sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher every day.

What are the risks and potential side effects?

You may have pinpoint bleeding and scabbing, minor swelling, or redness immediately after your treatment. These side effects are temporary and should resolve within a few days.
