Blepharoplasty Before & After Our Procedures
Our Blepharoplasty Procedure in New Jersey
Modern Blepharoplasty techniques by our surgeons ensure safety and amazing results that would make your time and investment worthwhile. The entire Eyelid Procedures takes between 1-2 Hours, and with capable hands like Dr. Ablaza, you’ll receive complete post-op care instructions.
During a blepharoplasty, the plastic surgeon carefully makes small incisions along the natural folds of your upper or lower eyelids. This allows them to remove any extra skin, fat, or muscle. Once that’s done, they close the incisions stitches, sending you home to heal with plans tailored to your surgery and needs.
What are the Types of Eyelid Surgeries?
Upper Eyelid Blepharoplasty
Upper eyelid blepharoplasty targets the removal of excess skin and fat above the eyes. This procedure is ideal for patients with drooping eyelids that create a tired or aged look. It can also help if the excess skin obstructs vision.
Lower Eyelid Blepharoplasty
This procedure is focused on addressing puffiness or bags under the eyes. Lower eyelid blepharoplasty can also improve the appearance of dark circles by tightening the skin and removing fat deposits.
Transconjunctival Blepharoplasty
A less invasive form of blepharoplasty, transconjunctival surgery involves making small incisions inside the eyelid. This technique leaves no visible scarring and is often used for patients with excess fat but minimal skin sagging.
Blepharoplasty Recovery
Patients typically need to take one to two weeks off from work or their everyday activities. Although many patients have recovered sufficiently to return to work within one week, it may take up to two weeks for all residual symptoms to subside completely, so it is not readily apparent that the patients have had any “work” done on their eyes.
The treatment area may be swollen or bruised, but, again, these symptoms should improve within about two weeks of surgery. During this time, individuals may opt to use makeup to conceal any bruising or discoloration. Patients should avoid strenuous activity, including vigorous exercise, for about two weeks (Walking is fine.)
Sutures placed on the upper eyelid or beneath the lower eyelashes are removed about five days after surgery during a follow-up appointment. Stitches positioned inside the lower eyelid will dissolve on their own. With proper care, any scars from the incisions should fade over time and eventually become nearly invisible once the treatment area has healed.
Ideal Blepharoplasty Candidate
Suitable candidates for eyelid surgery generally include individuals who:
- Have an overall healthy self-image but are bothered by the look of their sagging upper eyelids, drooping lower eyelids or both.
- Are possibly frustrated with the look of “monolids”
- Are in good overall health
- Have made the independent decision to pursue eyelid surgery
- Are not currently pregnant
