You may be surprised to learn that many plastic surgeons recommend combining a breast augmentation surgery with a breast lift for several patients. This is typically recommended because it allows the surgeon to reposition the nipples for the most attractive end result. Without the breast lift, the nipples will most likely face downward.

Not sure if you need the augmentation and the breast lift? If when wearing a bra you are happy with the size of your breasts, then you may only need to consider a breast lift. If you have a very small chest and are only looking to go a bit bigger, an augmentation without the lift may be all that is necessary. Each patient has a unique build, so our approach will always differ depending on their body and goals.

First, the patient will be placed under general anesthesia. Next, the plastic surgeon will make an incision around the areola and to the base of the breast in order to remove excess skin in what is known as the “lollipop” lift. The implant will be placed through this incision, typically under the pectoral chest muscle, eliminating the need for separate incisions for the implants.

It is important to note that the patient will still have the same choices between silicone, saline, and gummy bear fill implants in all varying shapes and sizes when combining their breast augmentation with a breast lift. The healing process for a simultaneous lift and augmentation will be about the same as either procedure alone, so it is important to set aside time to rest and recover in order to see the best results.
